Prognosis After Stenting Total Occlusion

Email Bookmark and Share

I recently had been diagnosed with acute coronary syndrome (troponin T 0.98ng positive) with 100% stenosis of the left circumflex artery. I underwent PTCA with drug-eluting stent placement to that artery and currently doing well after 24 days. What are the chances of me living a long life?

• Balaji -- your cardiologist should be able to answer your question much more accurately, because he/she has access to your complete clinical picture. Coronary artery disease is a chronic condition. But your lifestyle changes (smoking cessation, diet, exercise, compliance with meds) are exactly what you should be doing to reduce its effects. Total occlusions do have a higher than normal rate of reblockage, so definitely keep seeing your cardiologist for follow-up appointments. But if you have not suffered damage to your heart muscle and your blood flow is currently normal, you should be able to do whatever you want, as long as you keep this disease in check.

• Sir, I recently had been diagnosed with acute coronary syndrome (troponin T 0.98ng positive) with 100% stenosis of the left circumflex artery. I underwent PTCA with drug-eluting stent placement to that artery and currently doing well after 24 days. Since I am 36 years old only, I am highly worried about how long I will survive or will I have another heart attack. I have two daughters to take care of and I am highly worried about my life expectancy, anyway I have made lifestyle modifications like quitting smoking, diet, walking, compliance with medications etc.. Please frankly advise me what are the chances of me living a long life?
